An introductory session is being conducted at Somaiya Vidyavihar on the 12th in the morning.

Session plan:
Free software philosophy - Nikita Belavate
Technical session: Saurabh Mehta

From our experiences with previous sessions, we found that if we do not immediately form a GNU/Linux User Group (GLUG) at the institution then our effort goes to waste and we have to start from scratch. Hence, we are placing emphasis on GLUG formation and active participation from the students.

The following note is being sent in our correspondence to colleges:

"A GLUG is the equivalent of a technical club that we have at IITB where students meet up on a regular basis and work on community projects or trainings or reading FOSS articles. The idea is to get a motivated group of students who will initiate a hacker mindset and channelise it towards improving various skills. From a pedagogical point of view , we would like to encourage peer-to-peer learning which is the best type of learning and which only needs minimum intervention from a faculty member. From our experiments in numerous other institutions across the country, we have found that this yields good results over a period of time minus the teething troubles."
